Paul Ryan fails, again, to dissuade Trump from government shutdown
The House Freedom Caucus maniacs are running the nation for the duration of today. They goaded Individual 1 into deciding, again, that he must have his Steel Slats or else, and they’ve railroaded House Speaker Paul Ryan into doing their bidding, again. Ryan emerged from his emergency meeting at the White House with the message that Trump told him there was no way he’d sign the continuing resolution, which of course he did. Freedom Caucus maniacs Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan joined him in the meeting.
The White House says that Trump “just met with Republican members of the House,” and “not surprisingly they all feel strongly about Border Security” (as if the two maniacs represent the whole of the Republican caucus). Also too, “Democrats are unwilling to protect our nation” (as if Democrats are going to get the blame for Trump’s Christmas Shutdown).
Ryan added that “What we’re going to do is go back to the House and work with our members. We want to keep the government open but we also want to see an agreement that protects the border.”
Good luck. As of today, there are 26 Republicans who are AWOL. That means there are 209 Republicans available today and Ryan needs 191 votes to pass the $5 billion Trump and the maniacs are demanding, or alternatively, a clean continuing resolution. There are not going to be 191 Republicans who will give Trump that $5 billion when they know it won’t pass in the Senate. On the plus side, what an absolutely fantastic way for Paul Ryan’s speakership to wind down!
Merry Shutdown, everyone!!!
