A spokesman for Larry Hogan, the Republican governor of Maryland, said he was also sending National Guard troops and state troopers to Washington amid the violence at the Capitol.

2. Shortly after, the governor instructed General Gowen, the adjutant general of the Maryland National Guard, to call up a rapid response force to help support law enforcement and restore order.
