Trump says 'many' federal workers are happy to work without pay until he gets his wall
On Christmas Day, Donald Trump did his level best unredeemed-Scrooge impression with an insistence that “many” of the federal workers currently furloughed or working without pay because of his tantrum-based government shutdown are quite happy to work without paychecks during the holidays. Why? Because they support Der Pumpkinfuhrer and his “wall” just that much.
“But many of those workers have said to me and communicated, stay out until you get the funding for the wall. These federal workers want the wall. The only one that doesn’t want the wall are the Democrats, because they don’t mind open borders, but open borders mean massive amounts of crime,” he said.
This is almost certainly a lie. It is not likely that Trump has so much as spoken to a non-White House federal worker in the last week. Many of those federal workers took to Twitter, however, to kindly invite Trump to get bent; some of those reported that their holiday plans were being nixed because “essential” federal workers are having their approved vacation days revoked, obliging them to show up for work even though they won’t be getting paid for doing so.
Trump has told variations of this particular lie so often that it has lost all punch. He’s forever claiming in public that he’s had secret conversations with secret just-folks who absolutely love everything he’s doing and call him sir and are happy to support whatever new bit of arson he’s got it in his head to attempt. It’s old, it’s tired, and it’s too pathetic to even rate as insulting. Sure, Donald. Sure, the federal workers love you so much that they’re willing to work without pay to support your various pouting fits.
Secretly, of course. In public, it’s a different story.
