Midday open thread: Measles, idiots, hypocrites, and volcanoes
Today’s comic by Jen Sorensen is A field guide to bad-faith social justice activists:
Pssst … in case you didn’t know, vaccines work:
At least 228 cases of measles have been reported since January 1 in the United States, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Quite the all-star cast of jackasses:
Steve Bannon will travel next week to Cincinnati to rally and raise money for a wall on private land along the border with Mexico. […]
Also appearing at the event in the Hilton Netherland Plaza on Fifth Street will be the cowboy-hatted, pro-Trump former Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke; former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach and the founder of We Build The Wall, Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage.
Do they really think they’re in a position to be demanding apologies … unless they’re upset about the music part:
Catholic officials in Brooklyn are seething about Pete Davidson’s comments this weekend on Saturday Night Live comparing the church’s sex abuse scandals with the allegations against R. Kelly. The Diocese of Brooklyn posted a statement on its website Monday, demanding SNL apologize for what it called a “disgraceful and offensive skit.” […]
“This guy is a monster and he should go to jail forever,” Davidson said about Kelly during the “Weekend Update” segment. “But if you support the Catholic church, isn’t that like the same thing as being an R. Kelly fan? I don’t really see the difference, except for one’s music is significantly better.”
They need to be taking additional steps on this one:
Of the United States’ 161 active volcanoes, 57 are under-monitored, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, creating blind spots that pose a huge potential threat to public safety. […]
Congress recently took its first step toward addressing the problem.
On today’s Kagro in the Morning show: It’s that time of year when the president’s budget is declared DOA, though this one might never have been alive to begin with. Pelosi does her thing on impeachment. Trump cheats, earmarks the budget at golf. Javanka under the hot lights, again.
